Reflecting on Surah Maryam: 66-98

Is wealth and good appearance in duniya a sign of Allah’s pleasure? What does Allah look at?

The first thing that come to mind when you see someone very rich or with a lot of resources or very beautiful, is that Allah must be happy with them. I think it is an essential concept that we need to understand and inculcate in your children, because it is a trap of the enemy, shaitan. COMPARISON leads to treading on dangerous grounds. Wealth and good appearance is not the criteria to judge Allah’s rada’.

We are reminded of this thought provoking idea over and over again in the Quran. (So we see the importance of holding on to the Quran because we will forget.) Also even Rasul Allah (SAW) has been commanded to and through us we are warned to not stretch our eyes.

Also we always say – “that person has so much. They do so much wrong in the open yet they are still so rich or beautiful so there must be something they are doing that Allah is happy with them. Again this is a concept that has been clearly defined in the Quran with the fact that Allah gives people. We should never compare because each condition is relevant to their personal existence. First of all we cannot and should not judge. The Judgment is Allah (SWT)’s domain. And even if they clearly openly do wrong then it is not like Allah will not hold them accountable or not give a payback. There will be a Payday and who is most deserving of Allah’s pleasure will be out in the open. Allah looks at deeds. Allah looks at hearts and intentions – all that is not openly manifested or can be openly analyzed. Where will people hide then? May Allah save us from any humiliation on the Day.
