When I am in need of Allah‘s mercy what can I do?

Reflecting on Surah Naml:45-59 by Naheed Baluch

When I am in need of Allah‘s mercy what can I do?
Naheed Baluch

I tried to think of what I could do to attain Allah’s mercy and thought what better guide could there be besides the Qur’an on how to gain Allah’s Mercy. I started searching for verses that talk about Allah’s Mercy and what one can do in order to gain it. This is what I found:

1. In order to gain Allah’s Mercy I need to believe in Allah and hold on fast to Him and His book:
“So those who believe in Allah and hold fast to Him – He will admit them to mercy from Himself and bounty and guide them to Himself on a straight path.” (An-Nisa:175)

2. After committing any wrong I need to turn to Allah with sincere repentance and must reform myself:

And when those come to you who believe in Our verses, say, “Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy: that any of you who does wrong out of ignorance and then repents after that and corrects himself – indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.” (Al-‘Anam:54)

3. I should fear Allah, give zakah, believe in Allah’s verses and implement them and  follow the sunnah of  Rasool Allah (SAW):
[Allah] said, “My punishment – I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things.” So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give zakah and those who believe in Our verses – (Al-‘Araf:156)
Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him – it is those who will be the successful. (Al-‘Araf:157)

I also received a hadith via sms two days ago in which the Prophet May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him stated :
“Allah will not be merciful to those who are not merciful to people.”

So it is very important for us to show mercy towards others, overlooking their mistakes and forgiving them if we want Allah s.w.t. to bestow mercy upon us.

Insha’Allah implementing all this can help us attain Allah’s mercy.
