The Purpose of Creation

Don’t lose focus!

“The people of Noah denied before them, and the companions of the well and Thamud
And ‘Aad and Pharaoh and the brothers of Lot
And the companions of the thicket and the people of Tubba’. All denied the messengers, so My threat was justly fulfilled.
Did We fail in the first creation? But they are in confusion over a new creation.”
[Al-Qur’an – Surat Qāf (The Letter “Qaf”): 12-15]

Have we muslims also become like the foam of the sea? Light in weight and excessive in number…

Muslims are the second largest nation in the world with a population of 1.6 billion, but unfortunately their state today is not quite admirable. Lack of unity, sectarianism and racial discrimination plague us. Islam is being targeted and demeaned by its enemies and the Muslim identity has become somewhat a taboo universally. Worse still is the fact that most Muslims are ashamed of their own religion and are not just incapable of defending their Deen, they are actually apologetic about it. The result of this is evident in this duniya where Muslims are facing oppression and humiliation at a large scale. Despite having many resources the Ummah is subservient and dependent on the West for its survival.

We Muslims need to take to wake up and smell the coffee soon. We must take heed from this condition of ours as all of that stated above is only the temporary state in this world. What is yet to come and is even scarier is the punishment and wrath that may await us in the Akhirah.

In the Qur’an, Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) mentions time and again the perished nations that were strong, powerful, established yet arrogant and disbelieving. Their disbelief and transgression led to their painful and humiliating ends. These are clear signs for Muslims to turn to Allah (سبحانه و تعالى), the noble Qur’an and Sunnah of Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) before its too late.

Muslims are looking towards the West (western governments, institutions and agencies) for answers to their problems. As explained by Mr. Mahatir Muhammed in his interview to Duniya TV, the real solution for the Muslim world lies in returning to our origin; our faith. Mahatir Mohammed is an almost iconic figure who has turned around his country Malaysia and made it in to a thriving and developing economy. His interview is quite enlightening as to how understanding the true message of the Qur’an can lead one to worldly success as it is a complete guide for life. The principles of honesty, brotherhood and equality are what can learn and implement to bring about change in one’s life. And in the case of leaders such as Mahatir it has changed the destiny of an entire nation.

In contrast in our own country Pakistan, we have seen many leaders make tall claims of bringing about dynamic change and taking the country to new heights. Whereas we are still far away from being an Asian Tiger or a healthy economy. The main difference in the leadership style is obvious. There is a need for lack of self promotion, focus on the teachings of Islam and implementation of these teachings rather than mere focus on verbal knowledge of the Qur’an.

Do most Muslim leaders have the courage to stand up for their Muslim brothers? The entire Ummah (muslim nation) sat and watched in silence as innocent Iraqi and Afghani children were killed ruthlessly in the name of collateral damage. Once again going back to the interview with Mr. Mahatir who is one of the rare Muslims who have stood up for what they believe is right. Be it his courage to reject the recommendations of the IMF as unfit for his country or criticizing the Western and Jewish oppression against Muslims, it stems from his confidence in his faith. When we try to appease the disbelievers by inventing a so called ‘moderate Islam’ it is really rooted in our lack of knowledge and conviction in the book of Allah (سبحانه و تعالى).

We Muslims today have become slaves to our desires and forgotten the true purpose of our creation. Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) has explained extensively in the Qur’an what is expected of us as the inheritors of the Qur’an.

“Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers – so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.”
[Al-Qur’an – Surat Al-Fatĥ (The Victory): 29]
