A Gift for Muslims

 بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

by Uzma Javed

“The Moon! The Moon!” children squeal with delight,
The Mu’azzin can be heard reciting the Quran from the local mosque,
Women start preparing for Suhoor,
A meal to be eaten before the first traces of light…
An act performed by over 1 billion Muslims around the world

Fasting is observed from dawn till sunset,
Time to refrain from food and drink,
A time to purify the soul,
A time for reflection,
A time of worship,
A time to practice self-control

To strengthen ties with family and friends,
To restrain the tongue from backbiting and gossip,
To suppress from seeing evil, hearing evil and doing evil,
A blessed month,
A gift from Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim

When everyone rushes to perform the Night Prayer,
Their sides forsake from their beds,
Calling upon their Lord in fear and in hope
The month of the Quran,
The source of guidance

A Mercy for Mankind,
A gift bestowed by Allah
The Night of Power,
Better than a thousand months
Is truly special and worth seeking

Ramadan
When every action is multiplied,
O Allah! Accept our Duas, and our Worship
You, and only You we seek to please,
Al-Ghafour, Al-Karim

About Quran Reflections

Al-Huda's branch at Khayaban-e-Sehar is one of the few Quran courses being regularly conducted in Karachi, Pakistan, where the mode of instruction and examination is English. The students and teachers have decided to upload their reflections on the Quran and class notes on this blog, in order to be available to a global audience for the latter's benefit and inspiration.
