Contemplation is the Ladder to Gratitude

“Then let mankind look at his food- How We poured down water in torrents, Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], And caused to grow within it grain And grapes and herbage And olive and palm trees And gardens of dense shrubbery And fruit and grass – [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock.”

[Al-Qur’an – Surat ‘Abasa (He Frowned): 24-32]

If I were  to analyze my speech, I am sure I will discover that I complain  about things more than I show gratitude for them. Our speech is a great indicator of what is actually in our hearts. If we always think negatively, it will surface, but if we think positively, we will have a pleasant and agreeable disposition.

As Muslims we should always be satisfied with whatever happens in our life, because we recognize it to be the will of Allah (سبحانهوتعالى ). We cannot fight against fate or destiny, therefore showing patience upon difficulty is a virtue. It is a sign of recognizing one’s own weakness and lack of control and recognizing Allah (سبحانهوتعالى )’s power over everything, and His (سبحانهوتعالى ) wisdom in the choices He (سبحانهوتعالى ) makes for us.
