بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Welcome to our blog site for Al-Huda, Sehar Branch.
The Qur’an Reflections Blog has been started by teachers and students of the Tafheem-e-Deen (Understanding of the Religion) Course offered by Al-Huda International, an institute of Islamic Education for Women, at Khayaban-e-Sehar Branch in Karachi, Pakistan. Al Huda International is an initiative of Dr. Farhat Hashmi and Dr. Idrees Zubair and has been actively promoting Islamic education and welfare since 1994.
In this blog, we would like to share the reflections, lessons learnt and the implementation in light of our experience of studying the Qur’an in the Tafheem-e-Deen course.
Purpose of the Course:
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) says in the Qur’an:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”
[Al-Quran- Surah Adh-Dhāriyāt (The Winnowing Winds): 56]
In an effort to worship Allah (سبحانه وتعالى), we need to connect to Him through His words and through the Sunnah of Rasul Allah (صلي اللهُ عليهِ وسلم). Only then will we be able to Insha’Allah give the worship its true haq (right.)
The course content includes the following:
- Tajweed: Correct recitation of the Qur’an along with its proper rules.
- Word Analysis & Translation: This includes a word-to-word translation of Arabic to English and root word analysis. Root word analysis is the break-up of an Arabic term to comprehensively understand its depth of meaning.
- Tafsir: Exegesis. Brief explanation of the verses of the Qur’an in order to understand the real meanings keeping in mind the context of revelation.
- Subject: In order to develop true understanding of deen, various subjects are taught including Seerah, Muslim Heroes, Arabic Grammar, Duas and Fiqh ul Ibaadaat.
كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُوا الْأَلْبَابِ
“[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.”
[Al-Qur’an-Surah Sad: 29]
The Qur’an Reflections Blog includes posts of the following categories:
In the Qur’an, Allah invites us to understand the Qur’an and the world around us through deep understanding and reflection. Through this reflection we are able to draw closer to Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) who is the Controller of this Universe. By answering ‘Reflection Questions’ based on verses of the Qur’an, students develop the sense to be able to connect the Qur’an to their lives and derive important lessons from it to act upon.
Walking the Talk:
At the end of every Juz, students are asked to pick out a verse that they implemented in practical life. This is to be done in a form of a story. This exercise is a way to allow us to see that the Qur’an has been sent down to be implemented and not just theorized or merely recited beautifully.
In the Qur’an, Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) says: “…. And whoever believes in Allah and does righteousness (deeds) -He will admit him into gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein forever.…” (Surah At-Talaq: 11).
The emphasis is on the “doing” and hence our goal is to bring into actions all that we study of the Qur’an to please Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) insha’Allah.
Understanding Qur’an through Qur’an
The best way to understand the Qur’an is through the Qur’an itself. Certain verses of the Qur’an explain other verses and teach us how to best understand important concepts. A compilation of verses related to the Tafsir of other verses of the Qur’an helps us understand and interpret meanings of the Qur’an accurately.
Understanding Qur’an through Ahadith
The Qur’an is further explained through the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه و سلم) and through his ahadith. A compilation of selected ahadith on various topics helps us further understand how to act on various parts of the Qur’an and important teachings of our deen. All the ahadith posted here are taken from Sahih (authentic) sources that are also referenced.
Insha Allah in the near future we also plan to launch some more categories including ‘Signs in the Universe.’
